So, Where’s My Robot?

Thoughts on Social Machine Learning

It’s official…

RIM@gatech
Now that I’ve signed on the dotted line, it’s finally time to announce that I’m joining the Interactive Computing faculty at Georgia Tech in August! I’ll be part of their new Center for Robotics and Intelligent Machines.

The RIM center was launched in May 2006, with a personal robots mission statement. Henrik Christensen joined last year as the director. Here’s the motivating scenario:

“Society is experiencing a significant aging. Over the next few decades society will see a 50% increase in the number of elderly people. This will infleunce how manufacturing is performed, our healthcare, and assistance to people in their homes. Robotics offer a number of interesting opportunities to addresss these challenges.”

There’s been great research going on for years at Georgia Tech in robotics, computer vision/perception, and in human-computer interaction. They are well positioned to make an impact on the future of personal robotics. Needless to say, I’m thrilled about joining in the effort. …Stay tuned!
